  • Boot Camp opens up a big can of worms on so many different levels. Will game makers still make games for Macs? Will some software makers just tell you to “put windows on your machine”? I’ve been so used to not having to worry about attacks, I don’t even know what Windows users have to deal with anymore. I’ve been so lucky to be in an all-Mac work community, and haven’t even had to touch a PC in years, bit it looks like Apple may be bringing Windows back into everyone’s home, even mine… Jim http://www.humanbeingcurious.com

    Inside Boot Camp
  • CompUSA is closer to me than the Apple Store, and they have a very knowledgeable Apple person there most of the time, but there's something about going to an actual Apple store; it's like going on a pilgrimage or something to that effect. I usually pick the longer drive to the Apple store, just for the experience. Jim http://www.humanbeingcurious.com
  • Even though it's a little buggy sometimes (still!!), iChat is IMHO still the best IM program out there. I work with people spread out all over the country, and iChat is like our own virtual office. At any time I can be on a video conference call with someone from California, New Mexico, and North Carolina, which is not only astonishing, it's also quite a bit more productive than just an audio conference call. iChat is the one for me, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. • Congratulations on yet another great discussion inspiring article Chris. The Mac Mini media center is in my opinion a significant new product release from Apple, as significant a new release as the iPod or the iTunes Music Store. Read where I think Apple is going with this here: http://humanbeingcurious.com/page15/page19/page19.html http://humanbeingcurious.com/page15/page20/page20.html Jim www.humanbeingcurious.com
  • Oh man... I've been looking for a program like File Juicer for quite some time now. Thanks for the heads up, Chris! Jim www.humanbeingcurious.com

    Review: Echo One software
  • Nice article, Chris. It seems that the biggest argument PC users have had in the past is that there's not enough software for the Mac, which is not the case anymore, and in many cases, as have been mentioned above, we have better and easier to use software. The only exception now being the AutoCAD users, of which I believe makes up only a small portion of PC users. It's time everyone else just stopped making up excuses and deal with reality... www.humanbeingcurious.com

The Best Software Selection Is on the Mac
  • I'm with Larry here. I've been editing video since I was 9 and had an old super 8 film camera. I used to cut the film and tape it back together! Man that was a lot of work! Star Wars was the big movie of the time, and I would take the film and scratch it to make laser special effects, frame by frame, and then color the laser beams red or yellow with a marker. It's so amazing how far things have come since then. Now I have a video blog.... Check it out! Jim www.humanbeingcurious.com
  • I've compared it to Rapidweaver, and Rapidwaever comes out way ahead. RW makes it easy to create a clean looking website, and is open enough so the advanced user can change anything they want. You can add HTML in RW and you can go in and modify the page themes! I use Rapidweaver for my site, and the only limitations I ccan see are on my side, my lack of knowledge. I interviewed the Rapidweaver guys when I was at Macworld! If you want to see the interview, go to: www.humanbeingcurious.com

    iWeb: A First Look
  • The point of this article is good, and I see it, and I agree with it. However, syntax is really getting in the way, and was more distracting to me than the point the article was trying to make. This seems to be happening more and more here at applematters. Know that the articles you publish are going to be read by Apple fans, and Apple fans are usually a little bit smarter than the average human being, and thus more critical. "a live version of the show they were on exiting the building"? "iTunes has sold a bover 500 million songs"? Just two blatent spelling and syntax examples that really distracted me form the point you were trying to make.

Apple’s Media Center PC End Around
  • Think about this: When Apple introduced the Nano they used the graphic of a pants pocket. Nobody really thought about the small pocket as the focus of attention. Now for this event the graphic is something that looks like a stage curtain. Or does it look like the curtain they used to put over movie screens? My guess is for the latter. Downloadable movies are coming...

    Is Apple Feeding the Rumors?
  • I guess I'm the only person that uses the RSS feature in Safari a lot. I have a folder on my bookmarks bar labeled "RSS Feeds". In that folder I have all the sites that I like to follow. Apple Matters (of course) among other Apple related sites, Digg, Gizmodo, new scientist, etc... whenever I click on that folder on my bookmarks bar, I can see if someone posted something new at Apple Matters, or wherever. I never have to check back with a website to see if something new is posted, Safari RSS does it for me! I've used other RSS apps before Safari RSS came out, but it's nice to have this feature built into Safari.

    Tiger? Where did you go?
  • Apple has a long history of making things happen because they want them to happen. Think about it; where was firewire before Apple started putting it on all their machines? How many devices had bluetooth before Apple made it a standard option on all their computers? How many people carried around a digital music player before the iPod? I had one, a Rio I think, but it was a tinkerer's toy, and a pain to deal with, and only had 64Mb of memory. "Your laptop doesn't even have a CD burner?" "No, but look.......... It's titanium!!" Point being, if Apple does away with something, it will be for a reason. If they do away with ports, it will be because they have a wireless technology that makes ports obsolete. If they do away with optical drives, it will be because CD's and DVD's aren't good enough anymore. Apple got rid of disk drives and started making computers with only CD drives long ago, and everyone cringed. Anyone seen any kind of a disc lately? Apple will be able to make laptops smaller, and just as functional. These laptops may have some new technology in them that will take the rest of the world a few years to catch up with, but the world will catch up, and by then Apple will have made something else...
